a question of satisfaction...

For all you box breakers out there.... you know who you are... I want to know what you look for when you bust open a box? Is it a complete set? Hits? Jerseys? Or is that Jersies? Maybe autographs are your thing? Shiny parallels?
And at what cost? How do you rank whether you've just opened a good box, or a bad one?
I'm just looking for opinions here.

For example. You buy a box for $30. In it you find a complete base set, an auto,
and a four colour game used patch.
Are you happy?
The reason I'm not showing what product this is will be revealed in my next post where I will post my box break review.
Let me know what you think now, AND after you find out what these came from. Your opinion may change.

    Looks like an In the Game set - O Canada perhaps?

    What I'm looking for in a box depends on the box. For something like Topps base sets, I'm gunning for a set. Same with a non-sport box, although since a set is pretty much a given, I'm hoping for a cool autograph (not necessarily the big dollar ones) or something similar.

    I guess it comes down to value and fun factor. Take Allen and Ginter - big-dollar hits are rare but not impossible. However even when the hits aren't so good there's so much else going on that still makes for a fun bust.

    You pulled a Cassie Campbell (I am pretty sure) autograph and an emblem /20 (I am positive), I would be more than thrilled.

    O Canada at the price it is now is an amazing deal. O Canada at its release price could sometimes be bitter. I pick these up @ $30 all day though....

    I would think that a base set, an auto, and a patch is pretty good for $30 no matter what the product is.

    I guess I bust for base sets (even if I'm not planning on trying to complete it, I like to have some cards of just about everything) and the "hits" equally. I like them and value them both.

    However, I pretty much judge a box on it's hits. You're going to get whatever you get for the base no matter which box you get. What I mean is whether your box hit is a Pujols auto or a Tony Pena Jr patch, what you get for the base will be essentially the same. The only difference is the hits.

    Even if you don't get a base of your favorite player, it's never a difficult or expensive thing to get that card.

    It's not that base cards don't matter, but the only thing that matters between boxes are the hits.

    I don't bust much wax so my opinion isn't the same as others. I like on card autos of a player I recognize. That's why I like heroes 08. I like parallels from a set that is possible to complete. A parallel set of more than 100 or so cards is ridiculous. Those are the sets I try to complete.

    I like numbered patches too. Give me a decent on card auto, a few good parallels and a patch every box or two for around $60 or less and I'm happy.

    I would say I bust for base product, players on the teams I follow and the occaisonal hit. I'm no longer under the delusion that I'll ever pull any "card of a lifetime" inserts....

    The price sounds good, but it depends on what the set is and how many cards.

    For example, the 2006-07 Fleer Hockey set was cool. You'd get a complete base set from one box, and one insert in each pack. No autographs or jersey cards, though.

    I enjoy getting autographs in packs of cards, but can easily live without them. For me, it's all about getting a complete set.

    I still don't get why UD or Topps or whatever doesn't include a complete base set in each box, particularly in low end products that have a 200-card checklist. It drives me fucking nuts to have 15 cards or whatever leftover to complete a set. I would bust more boxes if they guaranteed a complete base set, plus whatever bonus jersey or autos they threw in.
