Card O' the Day

I got nuthin'. Wow. No sports on tv. No football, no hockey, nothing. Nascar hasn't even started yet...
So until I see sports (and the All Star game and the Pro Bowl do not count) You get a Card O' the Day.

Today's card is courtesy dayf.
A sweet Topps decal edge Felipe Alou somethingorother that I'm too lazy to look up in my Standard Catalogue.
Thanks bud!

Game on! Predictions, anyone?

First up this weekend we have the Game of the Weekend. I'm hoping whomever wins this one, goes on and takes the whole shebang.
Green Bay vs Chicago. A battle of the NFC North.
 vs
Aaron Rodgers against Jay Cutler. Two young QB's coming into their own. Should be a great one.

In the evening we have the AFC Championship. Jets at Pittsburgh.
 vs
on paper this should be a no brainer. The Jets shouldn't even be there. But they are. That's why they play the games people.

The Great Carnac says The Pack in a close one, and Pittsburgh running away.

What say you???

Vintage Generousness...

A little while ago (last year, but that wasn't that long ago...) Matt at Number 5 Type Collection held a contest. All you had to do was leave a comment stating three of your favourite defunct baseball teams. I listed the Milwaukee Braves, Montreal Expos, and the St Louis Browns. Well wouldn't ya know, I was one of five winners. (see what he did there? 5 winners? Bueller?)

Little did I know that Matt intended to send the winners actual vinatge cards. But that's just what he did. There is no end to the generousness (there's that word again) of most of the bloggers out there.

Let's get to the goodies....

A 1955 Jack Parks! It looks like somone tried to bite Jack down by his sig...
1955 Topps Charlie White. Wouldn't you know it, I only had four '55 Topps Braves before this, and Charlie was one of them. What does that mean? It means one of you will be receiving this Charlie White in a future giveaway. Stay tuned, as they say...
A 1956 Topps Andy Pafko, with a Play at the Plate in the background!
1956 Topps Danny O'Connell, with A Play at Third Base in the background! (Not quite the same is it?)
A 1956 Chuck Tanner. Well, most of him. Some enterprising previous owner cut 3 of the borders off.
a 1954 Bowman Johnny Logan, again on the slimfast diet plan with all four borders trimmed off.
And three 1972 Topps Montreal Expos. All borders intact, despite what my scanner is trying to tell you.

Boots Day! (I typed Booty Day.... wrong blog for that)
John Bateman out in the school yard...
and catcher John Boccabella thinking the photographer is an idiot for making him stand like a first baseman.
Thanks Matt!!!! You sir, rock.

Cool article about cards...

Just like the title says, I found a cool new article by Tom Lorenzo on trading cards and the athletes on them.
It centers on football players and their ability to remember the exact play featured on each of their trading cards.

Check it out. It's an entertaining read.

Let's clear some things up, BCS Championship style.

First off, I could not care less who wins and who doesn't. This made for TV championship game is a farce. How can they justify that all NCAA Division 1 schools compete for the championship, but only a few are eligible??? Until all schools have a fair shot, I will not recognize any such "Champion" nonsense.

Secondly, having said that, I believe it's, in everyone's best interest if Oregon loses. Why? Because of the nike abominations they are wearing trying to pass them off as uniforms. These are the most hideous things ever seen on an athlete, save Martina Navratilova's under things after a fifth set tie-breaker.
They even make Seattle's only once seen third jersey look good. And that says something.
And with all of teh BCS hype throughout the blogging land, I've seen a lot of publicity for Oregons cheerleaders. And good on you. They should get some pub. ( I haven't seen any from Auburn, but I'm not sure if there are good looking women at Auburn... I mean, with all their teeth and everything...)
Please prove me wrong if you can.

But! I have not seen the best Oregon has to offer. And that's a shame. The best, hottest, and undeniably sexiest Oregon cheerleader is none other than my close friend, Kelsi Metzler. End of argument.
 see what I mean?
 I really miss school.
 Beautiful green .. uh... fields...
 Go Team!
Are you starting to agree with me?
If not, you look in those eyes and tell her.....
My work here is done.

In celebration of...

the Packers win, or rather, the Eagles loss. (that's the key here, is the Eagles loss. Because we hate the Eagles.) We honour the Pack's number one fan, Matt from Heartbreaking Cards of Staggering Genius.

You'd think I'd post a Packer, or even a football card. But no. You get this beautiful card.
Why?
Awhile back Matt put out a call for a card from his wantlist. I had it. I sent it, along with some other stuff that I can't remember. Matt was nice enough to send this back my way.
I definitely got the better end of the swap.

Thanks Matt! And congrats on the Packers win!!! (Eagles loss!!!)

It's over! It's finally over!!!

thanks to dayf, Morgan "Mr Happy' Gould has found a home in my 2010 Panini World Cup Sticker Book. And then it was done! Complete!

The joy of a completed sticker book!!!

Thanks to all the bloggers in Canada and the U.S who traded with me, as well as those in Serbia, Finland, Australia, and France. Of course, a big shout out to John in England who always helps with these types of things.

Now, who wants to see scans of their favourite team??? Speak now. If no one speaks, I may just show you the whole damn book. Threat or a promise, your choice.

There is no living with her....

This past weekend saw the culmination of the latest incarnation of the Bloggers Fantasy Football League. For the past three years, I've turned my normal league into a bloggers league.  And for only the second time in 8 years, I did NOT win the championship. And for the second time in 8 years.....
it was my wife who beat me. We needed an extra entry to make the league have an even number of teams, for which she was happy to fill in. Now I know why.
Thanks to all the other bloggers who took part... it was a very competitive year. Already looking forward to next season.

Generousness... a good start to the new year.

One thing you will not see here is the obligatory new year 'state of the blog' address, nor any resolutions, look backs, recollections, top 10 lists of 2010, or any other review type post. There are enough of those out there right now. Not to say that they aren't interesting, but I've never been one to follow the crowd. And I'm a wee lazy too... so when you combine those, you get what we have here. A post that barely even acknowledges that we are in a new year. Just another day. I remember the biggest pain in the butt of the new year was remembering to write the correct year on your cheques. But I don't think I've written a cheque in over 10 years. Do they still even have cheques? Whatever. I digress.

The title of this post in Generousness. I thought I made it up. It's a great word to describe most of the great bloggers out there. Turns out I didn't make it up. It's a word. Look it up. I did.

Before xmas I posted about a package I received from Darkship aka Todd. He sent over one of the last two stickers I need for the 2010 Panini World Cup sticker book. Not being satisfied with just sending a sticker, Todd ran throughout his house, frantically looking for something else to send with it. He did. I can picture him doing it. Lord knows I've done it dozens of times. It's almost a dance.

A dance Todd does well. He sent over one of those fancy, only available in the U.S. Orange refractor thingies of Braves phenom Tommy Hanson.
and an auto of perhaps the greatest race car driver of all time, David Pearson.
A very cool on card auto of a former moon shine runner. What a country!

Thanks Todd!!! And let's have a great next 365.
