A quickie post this evening. I wasn't able to find too many needs for my Score Braves team sets.
But I did come away with two.
Both from the 1990 Score Update set.
Franky Cabrera.
You've heard me freak about When Sid Slid a lot on this blog.... Well Franky here is the one who was called on to pinch hit and drove the grounder to right that allowed Sid to slide.
That makes him an All Time Brave.
Come at me.
Ernie Whitt??? A Brave? Blink and you'll miss it. Ernie played 15 seasons in baseball. 14 in the American League, and 1 with ATL. He didn't do so well in the N.L. One last hurrah for Baltimore in '91 and he hung up his mask for good.
Now we'll see who's been paying attention.
This post featured 1990 Score Update. My last post was about 1990 Fleer Update. Both sets had two Braves catchers in them. But they were different catchers. How many did the Braves use that year??
Seven. Not shown are Kelly Mann, Tyler Houston Jody Davis.
Kelly, along with Tyler Houston and Jody Davis were the catchers in the Score regular set.
Kelly and Jody Davis made the cut for Fleer.
It was Jody's last season in baseball. Kelly played 18 games as a rookie, and then never played again. Tyler didn't make The Show until '96. Played a handful of games for the Braves and was shipped to the Cubs.
As much as I love Fleer and Donruss.... I think Score may be my favourite. The '91 set is one of my faves of all time. (In spite of all the black and white photos of shirtless dudes.)
Any of you have favourite Score cards?
Oh, by the way, Nacho is having a Ginter contest. It's rather complicated, but hey, what else have you got to do? Go and enter. Tell him I sent you. You'll get a discount. Nacho Grande

Let's hear it for 1991 Score baseball!
Who knew that a junk wax set would create so much interest? I guess maybe people are tiring of the $200-$400 per pack high end same old crappola.
or they're looking for a place to dump '91 Score.
Either way there's hope for humanity after all.
After a few emails, and some cards I found in the wrong box, here is my updated need list.
#'s 452, 457, 507, 559, 565, 577, 606, 629, 631, 636, 649, 686, 714, 719, 722, 738, 739, 841,
Quite an improvement. But, still a long way to go.
Yay team!
to celebrate, here's 1991's Miss Surfboard ... or something.

1991 Score baseball. Yes, that's what I said.
Haven't been blogging much lately. Too damn hot to do anything really. But since my hard drive died (I lost pretty much every scan I've ever done.) It took so long to fight that losing battle, only to then have our side by side refrigerator pack it in.
Have you been fridge shopping lately? "It's on sale sir! This week it's $900 off of the regular price. Only $1899.99, but you need to buy today as the sale is ending!"
And then.... my scanner stops. Oh it still eats electricity. And makes noise when I push the buttons. It just doesn't scan. Something I always thought a scanner should do.
Posts without pics are so blah.
Mind you, I can remember more than a few hundred times when I wanted to sit down and blog, only to think to myself, ugh. I really don't feel like scanning and cropping all those cards.
So I guess it's just the excuse of the week.
So if I can't scan anything interesting, then let's update those want lists. Something else that gets pushed back on the old priority list. Odd to put a list on a list.... but I do it.
Today, we have 1991 Score baseball. To most people, absolute junk. Garbage. Landfill. (oh, I meant recycled materials to be re-purposed into new, useful products)
But I actually like the set. It looks great in pages. Really. No, I haven't been drinking.
If you have any, hit me up. I'd be most grateful.
#'s 293, 452, 457, 501, 504, 507, 512, 517, 520, 523, 526, 528, 529, 551, 552, 559, 565, 568, 569, 577, 589, 598, 600, 602, 606, 609, 611, 615, 617, 620, 626, 629, 630, 631, 634, 636, 646, 647, 649, 651, 654, 655, 659, 660, 661, 662, 664, 666, 668, 670, 672, 674, 675, 676, 678, 679, 681, 682, 686, 690, 694, 697, 698, 699, 701, 702, 703, 706, 710, 711, 713, 714, 715, 717, 719, 720, 721, 722, 723, 725, 727, 729, 730, 731, 733, 735, 737, 738, 739, 742, 743, 747, 749, 750, 751, 753, 755, 757, 761, 763, 767, 769, 770, 771, 773, 774, 778, 779, 780, 781, 782, 786, 789, 793, 794, 798, 799, 801, 802, 803, 805, 806, 807, 813, 814, 817, 818, 819, 820, 822, 825, 826, 827, 833, 834, 837, 840, 841, 842, 843, 845, 846, 852, 853, 854, 855, 856, 857, 858, 860, 862, 863, 864, 866, 867, 868, 870, 872, 873, 874, 875, 876, 877, 878, 881, 886, 887, 888, 889, 890,
I think the set is 893 cards... if there's more after #893, then I need 'em too.

Scoring Junk from Scott Crawford..
Awhile back
Scott from the aptly named Scott Crawford on Cards put up a flyer advertising a bunch of 'junk commons' that were going to the recycle bin if no one claimed them.
My lists? Where are my lists??? I scrambled around for a spell trying to figure out what I needed Scott to look for before the blue bin of death came calling.
He sent me a nice box of stuff, and in return I sent him everything I could find off of his wantlists. Plus some other stuff.
Some of what I received......
Take a look at Phil Niekro... Phil retired at the end of the '87 season, but Score included him one last time. Oh, and it's Phil's 74th birthday today! Happy day Knucksie.
I've finally got all my lists for what I need in relation to team sets finished. Well, finished for Topps, Upper Deck, Donruss, Fleer, and Score. I printed out Donruss, Fleer and Score, and then they deleted themselves before I could transfer them over to my wantlist blog.
Microsoft Excel 1 Canuck 0
Some of these cards are just awesome. Each of them comes with built in memories. Flashbacks to summers spent in front of WTBS....
Thanks for the junk Scott.
If anybody else has any Braves needing a new home... let me know. I now know exactly what I need.
Except of course for Bowman, Bowman Chrome, Topps Chrome, Fleer Ultra, Stadium Club, Leaf......
oh gods, help me....

mini guessing game
Mark from Stats on the Back, despite being a Mets fan, is a pretty good guy. But he had me guessing on his latest package.
Included was a complete set of Score "Do You Remember" inserts from 1988. It was Score's version of Topps gum, or Fleer stickers, little half sized lenticular inserts.
If you pick up your monitor and tilt it up and down, you'll see why these are so cool.
Go ahead, try it.
Also, Mark included one card. One. A 1973 Topps John Hiller of the Detroit Tigers. Now here is where the guessing game begins. Now, I established that Mark is a Mets fan. That usually means that person is not too bright. But Mark is. I know. He can spell and everything. But why would I get a card of Detroit Tigers relief pitcher?
I stared at this card for about 5 minutes wondering..... do any of you know?
I love the wistful look as John gazes off into the distance... not to mention the two dudes hanging out in the background...
But those are not the reasons.
Give up?

Aw yeah baby!
Thanks Mark!
