At first... when I saw that Donruss chose Baines as the face of the A's franchise, I was sort of surprised. But after looking at the 1991 stats... Baines probably had the best all around stats.
I can only speculate that the better players on some of these teams had a Diamond King just one year earlier, and Donruss didn't do consecutive repeats back then. Otherwise...why Sanderson, Bell and Phillips? I'm sure in the checklist assignment committee at Donruss they had constant "well we can't make him a Diamond King EVERY year" conversations.

You made my day by reminding me that Scott Sanderson was once the "Diamond King" for the Yankees. :)
Mr. Clark was a deserving choice.
Some stole my thunder but I am going to go ahead anyway.
Lean year for the Yankees.

I was waiting for someone to comment on the George Bell Cubs card which was probably the most baffling other than the Sanderson.
Jay Bell of the Pirates was a good choice but they should have used Jeff King. That way it would have been a King Diamond King.
Dr. Cocaine!
WILL!
Scott Sanderson = Dark times for the "Evil Empire"
Great idea for a post btw
They captured the strange shape of Thomas' head perfectly!
