I've always been jealous of the talents that certain bloggers have. Making custom cards. I can't do it. I fail miserably. If someone would like to walk me through it, I'd be eternally in your debt.
But I was looking at Joe Collectors customs yesterday... he made a bunch from scratch. So I thought I'd try it too.... if I can't edit existing cards, maybe making them from scratch would be easier.
My first attempt. I used a program called PAINT.net v.3.5.1. and it took me about 35-40 minutes.
any criticisms are more than welcome.... also any how to's.

Looks real good to me. Nice work!
If you hadn't told me I would have thought that was a Panini sticker... vurry nice
Yeah, I thought this was a team issued card. Fooled me.
I like the scripty font for "Mike Liut".
Consider making the word "Blues" smaller, the Blues logo bigger, and ditching the #1 at the bottom...or making the #1 bigger.
Maybe "St. Louis" can be dropped.
This is good...but definitely play around with the stuff at the top. It appears a bit cluttered.
I like it. Aspect ratio is important so sometimes you have to add design elements to mask odd sized pics.
Any comments on mine?

I like it.
My one suggestion would be to maybe switch the St. Louis Blues with Mike Liut so that LIUT would be big.
I'd also ditch the #1.
Great start though; I love the picture.
wv: suckas
For a first attempt, it looks great. I think you have a good eye for composition.
My suggestion at this point...check out as many other customs as you can and get inspired by them. Take a more critical look at cards that are out there now - from a design perspective. And most importantly - have fun!
