Cards on Cards for Canuck

Awhile back Kerry from Cards on Cards did a wee breakoff 2019 Topps of the Class.  And he opened it up to anyone to claim a team, for free, because he's like that. Of course, even though I saw his post 0.04056 nanoseconds after he posted it, the Braves were already claimed. It is that way in any and EVERY break online whether it be a generous free break, or a paid one.
This is my life.
So I took the local team. Local if someone in Phoenix considers the Yankees local. I figured the Blue Jays needed to come back to Canada.
I was lucky enough to get a couple of cards too!
I ended up with two of Lourdes Gurriel Jr. I like watching him play. He's fun. I don't think he's in the Jays long term plans.... but for now he makes the games interesting. And baseball needs more of that. If there's ever baseball again, that is.

I also received a Marcus Stroman. Marcus is now a Met. Poor Marcus. We should all feel sorry for Marcus.

But here's the best part. Even more than getting into a break for free.
Kerry sent over a few Braves in his PWE!

That's actually a cool pic. I normally don't like those shots where you can't tell who the subject is, but until we start to get team cards again (i.e. NEVER) This isn't bad.

Looks like someone dropped a paint can full of Swansons onto a canvas and ended up with this. It has a nineties vibe to it. I like it. Although it may not age well...
Great googly moogly! A SMOLTZ! and I don't already have it!!!! WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the cards Kerry! One of these days I'll try and return the favour.

A cardboard conundrum

a wee while ago, Matt from Cardboard Conundrum had a group break. Unlike a lot of the group breaks out there, he wasn't trying to make a profit. He just wanted to have some fun. He offered up 6 boxes of 2012 product. Topps Heritage, Topps Archives, Topps Jumbo Series 1, and Jumbo Series 2, as well as two boxes of Gypsy Queen. Your choice of teams for $20 shipped, later reduced to $15.

Sold.

With me not busting any boxes of baseball anymore, the opportunity to pick up almost complete team sets of my Braves from all of the 2012 product in one scoop was too good to pass up.

Relax, I won't show you every card I received, but a few highlights. You know how I like pictures.
Pride of the NLTM. Uggla and Jones. Damn am I gonna miss Chipper.
Did you know that in 2011, Eric O'Flaherty became the first pitcher in the history of baseball to appear in over 70 games and keep his ERA under 1.00? With Eric in the 7th, Venters in the 8th, and Kimbrel closing the 9th.... you had better be ahead after 6 if you wanted to beat the Braves last year.

In the box of Heritage I also received
229 Brandon Beachy
238 Jose Constanza
308 Brian McCann
347 Chipper Jones (see? I don't show every Chipper card I get)
350  Tommy Hanson
394 Tim Hudson
409 Jair Jurrjens (what in the hell happened Jair???)
429 Jonny Venters
TN-AK Hank Aaron / Matt Kemp

2012 Archives

Here I'll show every card I got since I hadn't seen Archives in person yet.... plus I didn't get that many.

Freddie on a really white card.... and his buddy Brandon. (oh Brandon, what could have been)

BMac and Huddy from the same photo shoot as the Heritage cards. Ahh... Atlanta at sunrise.

The past and the future. Chipper and Kimbrel.

here's my first 'hit'... a Jason Heyward gold foil parallel that my scanner doesn't like.

Speed and Power. Hopefully we see more of both... and soon.

Topps Jumbo Series 1 and 2

I got quite a stack of these cards. But I had to show off this one.
it has to concern a batter to be looking out at the pitcher and seeing this maniacal smile coming back at you.

Look owl! Mini's!

ended up with three of them.
These go great with the ones I already have, Heyward and Bourne. So I just need a couple more I think???? Chipper probably? I have no idea who's in the checklist.... anyone?

And now my second hit. A Randall Delgado autograph.
Thank the gods Dempster said no. What in the hell is Frank thinking???????

I also received 30 Braves base cards from both series, as well as 8 inserts. Not bad.

Gypsy Queen

you knew Chipper was making an appearance along with his hunting buddy.

someone needs to remind Freddie to catch with his glove. That's what it's there for. I showed the big version of Tommy to illustrate the mini variant I got. At least I think it's a variant. Maybe.
I got three mini's out of those two boxes. I'm not sure if that's good or not.
one of them was this crooked Straight Cut back of Craig Kimbrel. The irony is not lost.
Here's where my luck really took off.

First, a mini relic of Tim Hudson.
a regular sized relic of Brian McCann
AND an on card auto of future Hall of Famer, John Smoltz.
NICE!

as well as 20 Braves base cards. No inserts. But I don't think they are in any of the insert sets. I think. Maybe. Hell I don't know.

If you are in need of any Braves base cards from this year, let me know, I may have dupes. Maybe we can swap for ones I need. IF I can figure out what I need.... that may take some doing.

I'll tell you what. Matt included a Golden Giveaway code card. (I'm assuming unused) The first person who offers up a card off of my wantlist gets the code. Any takers?

That's gold, Jerry! Gold!

Fairly odd headline coming from a guy who has never seen a complete episode of Seinfeld. But with all of the Seinfeld/chicken references going around baseball this past week, I figured why not join the crowd? Be one of the 'in' people for once. Assert my individuality by being like everyone else. It's like being a teenager again.

Where was I? Oh, yes, cards. Of course. That is why most of you come here, isn't it? (those few not withstanding who are still checking out the hot soccer chicks. I'm over here.... hello?)

Moving on, they'll catch up later....

I bought a few baseball cards at the last card show. I'll show you these four now.... maybe the rest later if I ever find where I put them down.....

Four, count them, four outstanding Braves cards for the low, low price of $8.

You know any Braves post HAS to contain Chipper, right? Well here's mine...
2012 Heritage New Age Performers....
He also had a stack of these Gold Rush cards. Apparently you had to send in wrappers to Topps in exchange for these. Who knew? Not this boy. Yeah, I haven't been paying attention much.

I now own, Dan Uggla

recent number retired honouree and future Hall of Famer John Smoltz
and Warren Spahn.
Now these are pretty cool. I'm not going after the set or anything crazy like that... but I do want all the Braves. A quick check at Topp's website for a checklist....
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Looking at Topp's website for a checklist! That's gold, Jerry! Gold!
Anyways, if any of you know of, or have any Braves that I ain't got listed here (ther's only three to keep track of, it's easy) Please let me know and we'll get a deal done.

It was nice to be able to find time to write... thankfully Euro 2012 is almost over. I may get my life back again. Wait. What do you mean the Olympics are starting? When? Uh oh...........

Twenty Five Cent Heaven

I've been in money conservation mode the last couple of weeks. Decided to start saving for a big purchase. But that does not mean I can't raid the .25 cent binder at a cardshow.

I also hit up the 15 for a dollar box too, but I'll post about that later..... probably.... maybe...

But first the quarter cards.

A NRMNT 1972 Topps Jose Pena of the Dodgers. Why did I buy a Dodger? Because he was .25 cents. That's why. Around these parts if you see a 1972 Topps card for .25 cents, you buy it. It doesn't matter if aren't collecting Dodgers or the set.
A 2009 SPA Kris Medlen rookie... I think I need it. I haven't checked yet and my lists aren't that detailed yet.
from the same set, a gold parallel of Javy Vazquex numbered to /299
2010 A&G Mike Dunn rookie. I thought I needed it. I didn't. Whoops. On the plus side, this made me make a wantlist for A&G. From 2006 to 2011. So now I know exactly what I need and what I don't. Well, for Ginter anyways.
2011 Bowman Randall Delgado Topps 100 insert. I thought I needed it and I did! One for me!
The final baseball .25 cent treasure was this 2007 Bowman blue parallel /500. Doesn't matter if I had it already... I have a soft spot for Smoltzie.
For all you hockey fans, I'll have some more .25 cent glory up on my other blog later tonight. But even if you're not hockey card fans, it has to do with fights and Enforcers..... and everyone loves hockey fights.

Here Chipper, Chipper, Chipper..........

Thanks for the trade Amanda!

1 hour left..

there's one hour left in the poll to the right on which pack to break. And it's all tied up. Someone break the tie while I get ready to watch the Braves game.

and while you're at it, leave a comment here on the over/under of how many times we see a shot of John Smoltz in the Red Sox dugout.

Group Case Break Results!!!

Saints of the Cheap Seats had a group case break going on last month. For the results, please click here to see the scans of all the really cool cards that were pulled. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Back? Good. Pretty cool stuff, eh? Well, although I was a fully paid participant in the break, I didn't get any of what you saw. Nothing. I got this.

This card is so bad, Dan didn't even scan it to show off what was pulled. And I needn't remind you of how we feel about John Smoltz, do I? You're looking at a plain white swatch of John Smoltz' pants that I ended up paying $22 for.

Crap.

Dan felt so bad, he sent along some goodies to ease the pain.

An '04 auto of Alec Zumwalt,
and two cards from 2008 Upper Deck A Piece of History.
Brandon Jones and Josh Anderson. Can someone tell me why they are different colours?

and a couple of shiny '99 Topps Gold Label former Braves.
Andres Galarraga,

and Brian Jordan.
Through no effort of my own, I have become a Brian Jordan Super Collector. Everyone who sends me Braves, sends me tonnes of Brian Jordan. I had no idea he had so many cards....
