The best kind of cards I'll see this month...

 This is a post of many thanks. You won't see the newest, shiniest hit product here today. Only a few cards sent to me by some old friends.

Or as I like to call it, the best kind of cards ever.

but jim was nice enough to send me another just so i could cross it off of my list.

Look what I found! 2018 Donruss Optic Baseball.

Time sure flies when the world is ending. Hopefully we have a bit more time before The End of Days since I haven't watched season 7 of "Castle" yet.
As any baseball fan in Canada knows, finding football or basketball wax is IMPOSSIBLE. (Thanks for nothing Panini.)
Now that has trickled down to baseball. Sure I can go to my local shop and drop $2600 on a single box of 2020 Definitive, but I had left my American Express Centurion card in my other limo that day.
So a blaster of 2018 Donruss Optic baseball it is!

Just the highlights.... this stuff is a bit shiny for me. You could signal aircraft with this stuff.

Okay, okay, it doesn't look that shiny. I was lazy and scanned them with the sleeves still on. You even look at this stuff and it scratches. Sue me.

So this blaster is an automatic win after the first pack.

Five packs, so I show five cards. I was pretty happy with it overall. Especially for an unlicensed product.

Damn. Topps should take lessons on how to do a proper card back. They apparently have COMPLETELY forgotten that skill.

Well.... It's been awhile. Is this even still a thing? But while the zombie apocalypse rages on, I've found myself with a wee bit of time on my hands. I'm probably the only one though.

So I've been doing a bit of organizing, a bit of cleaning... and I found a small stack of cards that I had acquired quite awhile ago, but had never found their way into their permanent homes. From that, I discovered that they hadn't been removed from my want lists either. Maybe I should actually update my want lists... 

 One of those cards is this handsome fella.

 I am slowly building my Braves team sets for all of the A&G years.... Unfortunately, I don't think I have anything after..... 2014? Ugh.
I suppose I have to start somewhere....

Oh! And look who I found in a pack just the other day...

They're still pumping out CHIPPAHS in 2020!!!!!!!

Anyway, if anyone is still out there, I hope all is well with you and yours.... Wish me well on this journey.

A quick post to say thanks to a couple of the local card shops here in the Big C.

Trade night was last night and prizes were given away. I was the lucky recipient of movie passes complete with popcorn and beverages for me and the wifey.

 

Thanks to Darren and Maple Leaf Sports for the night out! I just hope wifey remembers to take me.

 

 

And Mike and Doug at Eastridge Hobbies gave me a nice stack of Chippers, Smoltz's, and Maddux's.

Very sweet.

A Cardboard Bowman...

My buddy Marie sent me a nice stack of cards a couple of weeks back. And with Marie, you can always be assured of getting a good helping of Bowman. Which is cool, because I happen to like Bowman. I know a lot of you don't... but when you compare it to Topps, it comes out on top quite easily.

The only gripe I have is I can never figure out what subsets go into what year.... it gets confusing when you have a stack of black border and white bordered Bowman cards from the last 4 years....

But then again, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed either.

So if you will I'll show you a smattering of what Marie sent. And no, it's not all Bowman. Promise.

First up some Bowman Chrome Braves

 these chrome don't curl up like pringles... which is nice.

I always wondered why companies show a guy who always hits 40+ homers fielding on his baseball card... I guess it's like showing Greg maddux batting...

 I may be in love with our pitching staff this year. Just sayin'... Good Luck Cleveland.

 And again! This time in Topps Finest. Except it's not..... finest. I miss Finest from back in the day. Bring back the Electric Boogaloo colour schemes that made your eyes bleed.

 The lefty version of Kimbrel. Jonny Venters. I hope the coach takes it a little easier of the bullpen this year.

 A Bowman Platinum Matt Lipka. One of two SS hopefuls in the pipeline. I think the job has been given to Tyler Pastornicky already. Hey. He can't be worse than SeaBass was last year. Good Luck Milwaukee.

 Tier One Chipper. Wow. Glad I didn't break any of this stuff. But it still goes perfectly into the Chipper binders. Yes, I said binders. Plural.

 And this little beauty reminds me of old school Finest. It looks like one of those weekly giveaways from your local cardshop. Your local cardshop, not mine. Mine gives away Tim Thomas.

Flipside Facts

Guess who got a bunch of Chippers in the mail? Me! Mark from Stats on the Back sent over around 30 Chipper cards.
Quite a few of which I didn't already have. Hard to believe, but I guess with Chipper having 1,093,848,329,041,993,256 cards of him made just in 1999, I suppose anything is possible.

Mark also was kind enough to take a slow, romantic walk through my Wantlists, and send over five cards that have eluded me until now.

at long last...

I was reading a post by Ed at Roll out the barrel in which he stated a desire for Dave Bush cards. I don't question such things. I understand. I had a couple of extra Brewer Wal Mart Black cards, including Mr Bush, and proposed a trade. I ended up with Jo-Jo and Tim, which you see here.

But then it got interesting... I saw in Ed's "For Trade" list, that he had a card I've been wanting for a very long time. Since I first laid eyes on it, I knew it must be mine... but what did I have for trade? Think man, think! Wait! Remember this???
Way back in April, some ebay scammer sent me that.... now, will Ed want it? Why yes, yes he did. And in return, I got my card...
