A Cardboard Bowman...

My buddy Marie sent me a nice stack of cards a couple of weeks back. And with Marie, you can always be assured of getting a good helping of Bowman. Which is cool, because I happen to like Bowman. I know a lot of you don't... but when you compare it to Topps, it comes out on top quite easily.
The only gripe I have is I can never figure out what subsets go into what year.... it gets confusing when you have a stack of black border and white bordered Bowman cards from the last 4 years....
But then again, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed either.

So if you will I'll show you a smattering of what Marie sent. And no, it's not all Bowman. Promise.

First up some Bowman Chrome Braves

these chrome don't curl up like pringles... which is nice.
I always wondered why companies show a guy who always hits 40+ homers fielding on his baseball card... I guess it's like showing Greg maddux batting...
I may be in love with our pitching staff this year. Just sayin'... Good Luck Cleveland.
 My boy Kimbrel!
And again! This time in Topps Finest. Except it's not..... finest. I miss Finest from back in the day. Bring back the Electric Boogaloo colour schemes that made your eyes bleed.
 Fabulous Freddie
Julio... I don't know if that's a schoolyard in the background...
Our pitching is soooo good. Randall may not make the team.
the best catcher in the game, BMac!
 and of course, CHIPPAH!!!!
Yes Craig, you just struck out another one.... BTW, since I do read the backs of my baseball cards, I hope you do, too.... This one told me that Craig set the Braves record for K's per 9 innings with 17.42.
That, my friends, is sexy. Forget about the long ball.
A 2011 shiny Chip, not from Topps Chrome or Bowman Chrome.....  uh, ok.
 My very first liquorfractors!!!!
There's my boy again! I think I may have to start a pc of Kimbrel. Yeah, I know. That's just what Canuck needs. Another pc.
The lefty version of Kimbrel. Jonny Venters. I hope the coach takes it a little easier of the bullpen this year.
A Bowman Platinum Matt Lipka. One of two SS hopefuls in the pipeline. I think the job has been given to Tyler Pastornicky already. Hey. He can't be worse than SeaBass was last year. Good Luck Milwaukee.
Tier One Chipper. Wow. Glad I didn't break any of this stuff. But it still goes perfectly into the Chipper binders. Yes, I said binders. Plural.
And this little beauty reminds me of old school Finest. It looks like one of those weekly giveaways from your local cardshop. Your local cardshop, not mine. Mine gives away Tim Thomas.
Thanks for sticking with me to the end... and thanks for the cards Marie!

What Cano Can Do For You....

If you've been paying attention (I hope someone has because I sure haven't...) you'll remember awhile back when I busted a couple of packs of..... something.... and pulled a bat relic of Robinson Cano. Or maybe it was a jersey relic. Or maybe a sock relic. Something. Anyways, it was Robinson Cano.
Now the only person crazy enough to have a player collection of him is my good friend Marie. She's a little odd about stuff like that, but I like her, so I just go with it.
I sent it off, with not much else, because Marie is a girl. And her collecting tastes are very narrow and a wee expensive. She is after all, a girl. It is their ways.

It is also her way, to be very generous in return, as she sent me a package that contained wonderous Braves inside.
Let's peek inside...

First, one of several Braves relievers popping the mitt at over 100mph, Arodys Vizcaino from a card set that I never knew existed.
Andruw!!!!!!! I miss Druw. Glad to see he's still smacking the long ball, even if it is for the Yankees in that hatbox they call a stadium.
 Chippah!!! Not once, but....
 ...twice!
 BMac!
Smoltzie!!! (I'm going to set a record for use of exclamation marks soon...)
 JHEY!
 and Fabulous Freddie Freeman...
a Bowman Heyward seen celebrating another victory.
Another Arodys. I can actually type his name now without having to think about the spelling.
 another Jason makes an appearance.
 Are you feeling BLUE????????

Tommy is...
 as is Brandon..
and young Yasser. I know nothing about Yasser Gomez, except that I hope he grows into his hat one day soon....
A super duper framed green Jason Heyward.
Mini Jason!!! I have framed Jason, Mini Jason, and the full size Future Star Jason at least twice, but I do not have Regular base Jason yet. Odd.
Game worn something of Tim Hudson. Who knew that when Oakland broke up the Big Three, that stat wise Hudson would be the second best pitcher in all of baseball from that moment until now behind Halladay?
 And now some Bowman shiny....

Beachy rookie..
 Big bad Brian
 Mr Home Run Champ...
 Fabulous.... just fabulous...
and why don't we end with 452 home runs worth of Chipper?
Thanks Marie!!!! I'm already working on something to send back.....

from out of the Blue, some Orange!

now that blogger is working and I can actually post images again, we'll try this posting thing again.
One of the things that really sucks about the horrible crap that Topps is putting out baseball wise is that I haven't bought much of any baseball cards in over a year. And what really sucks is that means a massive cutdown on trades. I trade a lot of hockey, but most of you are baseball only.

But a few days ago, I got a package from an address I remembered. Inside were about 25-30 Braves, including Mr Hanson Orange border refractor
A Yunel orange refractor (one of the worst trades we've made btw)
Brandon Hicks RC super xfractor thingie
and one of our CF by comittee members, also a superXfractor thingie.
there was no note or anything, but I knew the address to be of Marie from A Cardboard Problem. Apparently these Braves were just gathering dust on one of her shelves.
Thanks Marie! I love this hobby! Troll out!

oh.... wait... wrong blog....

No problem

the other day I received a mailer from Marie, at A Cardboard Problem. She sent over a bunch of Braves. Some of which I immediately placed in their appropriate binders.
Yes. That's another way to say I can't remember every card she sent over. That's okay though. I'm sure she understands. She is a collector after all.

But I do remember three important things.
#1 Warren Spahn
#2 Adam LaRoche
#3 Chipper Jones
does anything else really matter?
Lesson learned. Spahn, LaRoche, and Chipper cards are always welcome here.
Thanks Marie.

BlogWars... the Beginning

For those of you who weren't there...(quite a few of you were), Suzy and Marie from A Cardboard Problem held a live Topps 2009 Jumbo case break on their blog this afternoon. Promises of pictures, Q&A, and laughter were made. Fun was to be had by all.........
Until.....
They thought it would be fun to withhold certain hits from viewing. mainly, the Braves. Threats were made. A call of a cage match was suggested. They continued to snicker... safely tucked away in the solitude of their lair.
I took a stand. On behalf of Braves fans everywhere. We will not be held hostage to the whims of Yankee fans any longer!

I give you.... a Derek Jeter rookie. Intact. For now.

It's funny what a hole punch can do to micro foil......
Heck, why not cut off his whole head?

That was shockingly mean you say! Derek should be comfortable. Not headless. Okay, let's put him at ease then.

In a dress... fitting for a diva, don't you think???
Game on ladies.... Game on!
