Trading with a Yankees fan....

Okay, first off, I know I haven't been around.... it's World Cup time, and it's hotter than Hades around here. So I've been..... secluded you might say. Others might say I've been hiding in the cool basement refusing to come out. But who listens to "others"?

So to get back in the swing of things, I thought I might put up a trade post. Those of you who don't care, may leave now.... or continue staring at the latest World Cup girl, whichever. But I warn you.... this is no ordinary trade post. This is a weird one.... maybe you can help figure it out.

It's from Sooz. World renowned Yankee fan. But that's okay. We still like her. Well, most of us do.

A couple of weeks ago I had casually inquired (or maybe there was begging involved) about some Chippers she had, along with some 2010 Bowman Braves. Sooz, being the great trader she is, mentioned that she had some Topps Series 2 Braves that she would throw in too. Perfect. All that's left is the waiting. Well wait no more. The package is here. It arrived the day that I got off my butt and mailed her package. (oops. Sorry Suzy)

It starts off according to plan.... 2010 Bowman Braves....

Jair, who should have got the win against the Phillies last night after throwing a two hitter, but the Braves chose to win in extra time.

The best hitter in baseball, Mr All Star, Martin Prado

another All Star, the Old Man, Tim Hudson.

The injured one, who if he wants to go back to the All Star game, must go back to Pittsburgh.

A BMac! And it's Gold! meh..... nice pic though.

some ex-Yankee that we got for Javy.

and his gold version as well.

along with a Smoltz insert. Somebody, anybody... please swap him onto radio and bring Don Sutton back to TV. Thanks.

Now here is where the trade starts to sway.... instead of Topps Series 2, we get a dose of Topps Chicle.

The Future.

BMac - 5 All Star Games in four years of playing. Not bad.

Mr Lucky... or Mr Run Support.

Jair doing his best Tiger Woods smile.

Nate looking like one of those Asian blow up dolls.

Mr Murphy.

and another Mr Murphy.... holy crap.

Game Used Bat Baby! I love you Suzy! Nevermind what I say about the Yankees. They don't deserve you.

Okay, so maybe the Topps Series 2 is next? She just wanted to surprise me with the Murph?

No. Instead, I got these.

and these..

not a Brave in sight. Seriously though? Sometimes I just don't get women. Am I complaining though? Not a chance. These are pretty cool cards. And in case you didn't look to closely, there was this little number.

It is currently on ebay with a BIN of $100,000
Sooz has taken care of my retirement. Thanks Sooz!
btw, if you're interested in the Strasburg, after purchase, mention that you read this blog and I'll throw in free shipping....

a little late...

Obviously stressed about missing my birthday, my friend Sooz sent me a Happy Earth Day
package in, of course, a recycled bubble envelope.

Enclosed was a lovely hand-written note. I'll never forget what it says. "Happy Earth Day! P.S. Braves still suck."

Warms the cockles of my heart.

Not to be too friendly, Sooz starts us off with John Smoltz. Still a bit of a sore spot. It might get worse if he ever takes the mound in that "other" uniform.
I love this set, but I've never been able to find packs or a box of it anywhere. Here's the rare red version.
Here we have John pitching for Star Trek:The Next Generation.
A few cards of Jeffery

Refractorrama!
Kelly Johnson

A lone card of Andruw. (don't look now, but he's lighting it up in Texas. So much so, Texas is shopping a couple of outfielders according to MLBTraderumors)
B-Mac!!!!
I like the white better than the black meself.

Hey! A 2009 Topps Finest Yunel Escobar. I'm one card closer to my team set. (I have two, Yunel and B-Mac)
and of course, no package between Sooz and I would be complete without a little Chipper love.

One of the best cards... two out of the three greatest 3rd baseman on one card!
Awesome.
I just noticed this, but out of the 40-50 cards Sooz sent, all but three of them were ultra shiny or glittery. Must be a girl thing.
Thanks Sooz! Truly awesome.

Closer....closer... sooo close.....

Today was a day of highs and lows. First, the lows. A trip to the dentist. I'll spare you the details. We've all been there. On the way home, some highs. First, the sun was shining and it got up to 10 degrees today. A beautiful start to Spring. Next, a stop at the mailbox. I love the mailbox. Today brought me three packages. I'll talk about two of them here.

My good friend Suzy from A Cardboard Problem sent me some Braves. Not just any Braves, but new Braves. Braves I don't have, or will ever have the chance to buy, as living in Canada is the same as living in a vacuum sometimes. (Still no new baseball here.)
These are the new fangled Topps Black cards all the kids are talking about.

Bobby!
Kelly!
Huddy!
these black cards teach me, if nothing else, that my scanner bed needs cleaning.
Jeffrey!
and Jo-Jo!
Sooz also sent a super ultra rare serial numbered Gold bordered Bobby Cox. #1237/2009!!!
okay. not that rare. but is it odd that I now have the gold #'d parallel and the exclusive black version of this before I have ever even seen a regular 2009 Topps card???
note: Both versions of Bobby were the only ones encased in top loaders. Even a Yankee fan gives Bobby the respect he deserves.

Also, some '09 Upper Deck. The Braves Team Leaders card;
I LOVE these team leader cards.... love 'em! They remind me of the OPeeChee hockey league leaders in the mid-late '70's. Beautiful.

Chipper!!!!
this one obviously was spared by the chipper.

Thom Glavine. I mean, Tom Glavine. This is Upper Deck, not Topps.
Jeffrey!
and finally, a puzzling one. I guess maybe Suzy is tired of our little blog war. She's decided to make peace. The final card she sent is of her favourite player, Derek Jeter, shown here in all full bleed colour, striking out against Anaheim.
A nice gesture Suzy. Thank you.
Which brings me to the second package. And the title of today's entry. Scott from Hand Collated
sent me this little gem.
One more elusive card, and this set is history! Thanks Scott.

Soon Derek.... soon....

It started innocently enough.
A gentle warning....

But then, it was escalated...
I'm not sure she knows what she's got herself into....

Soon Derek. Not yet.... but soon.

BlogWars... the Beginning

For those of you who weren't there...(quite a few of you were), Suzy and Marie from A Cardboard Problem held a live Topps 2009 Jumbo case break on their blog this afternoon. Promises of pictures, Q&A, and laughter were made. Fun was to be had by all.........
Until.....
They thought it would be fun to withhold certain hits from viewing. mainly, the Braves. Threats were made. A call of a cage match was suggested. They continued to snicker... safely tucked away in the solitude of their lair.
I took a stand. On behalf of Braves fans everywhere. We will not be held hostage to the whims of Yankee fans any longer!

I give you.... a Derek Jeter rookie. Intact. For now.

It's funny what a hole punch can do to micro foil......
Heck, why not cut off his whole head?

That was shockingly mean you say! Derek should be comfortable. Not headless. Okay, let's put him at ease then.

In a dress... fitting for a diva, don't you think???
Game on ladies.... Game on!
