Tribecards on a Braves blog.......

One of the first few bloggers I ever "traded" with when I started this humble blog three years ago, was David from Indians Baseball Cards. Or Tribecards for his friends. You can call it Tribecards. Even people David hasn't met yet he considers friends. That's just the way he is.
I put the word "traded" in quotation marks earlier because back then there was very little if any trading going on. It was all more accurately described as "giving". If you saw something you liked, or needed it, someone would end up giving it to you. If you wanted to send something back, you did. You could call that trading I suppose, but it's different to me.

About a week ago I found a bubble envelope in my mailbox from the great state of Arkansas. That can only mean one thing.....
Free wax packs!!! Well, free packs anyways... David doesn't use wax to seal his packs. He uses three rolls of tape. Per pack. I'm not kidding.
After freeing the cards from their protective cocoon, I sat and read them for an hour. David always includes a wide variety of cards in his packs, some of which I haven't seen before.
I'll just show a small sampling here, as most of the cards are already in binders, filling in holes in my team sets.

Some of you may not get past the first card. For it is Glorious.
I can still hear Skip Caray screaming at the top of his lungs... "BRAVES WIN!!!! BRAVES WIN!!!!! BRAVES WIN!!!! BRAVES WIN!!!!!"  Damn I miss him.

Ladies, may I present Mr Ron Gant.
 Line forms at the left....

and of course, Terry Pendleton.
Terry doesn't look overweight here.... I've never seen Terry not look overweight....

along with the old, I got some new as well....
 Tommy Hanson, and...
 ...Jason Heyward Ginter style.
Tommy is sad someone took his hat......
and finally for this showing.... Chipper and Smoltzie on some super embossed Upper Deck set that was cool but everyone has forgotten about.
Thanks David!!! If you want to get in the madness.... visit Indians Baseball Cards.... tell 'em I sent you. The magic password is "Tiger Blood"

Thanks to Tribecards!

About a month ago I was reading through the latest blog updates, when I came upon a post from our good friend David over at Indians Baseball Cards. He had just posted about a wonderful book he had found that was put out by Surf Soap in 1987. It was a full colour, glossy soft cover book detailing every Topps baseball card of the Cleveland Indians from 1952 through 1986. Pictures of every damn one of them.
Also included, a brief write up about the team for each season of issued cards.
What a cool book I thought. I was so jealous that I never got to see these regional oddball items. And I wished there was a Braves version.
Well wouldn't you know, David ended his post by listing all of the teams these books were available for. And the Braves were one of them!

*Open new browser...
*type in fleebay.ca
*search for Braves Surf book...
*click on Buy it now $4.95!!!!!
Woot!
my scanner does not like scanning books....
but you get the idea here....
every card from '52 through '86. It's nice to look at these and see which ones I'm missing from my team set binders.
I'm getting closer every day, and books like these help.
Thanks for the post David.
To see what other teams are available, click on the link at the top of this post to Indians baseball Cards. It'll take you to David's article.

a Pirate Treasure

before I dive in to the latest loot, I'd like to thank whomever is responsible for the weather today. It's a beautiful 20 degrees outside. The last two weeks we've been inundated by 29-33 degree weather. Plants are dying. The grass is but a memory. That leafy green 14 foot tree I planted in the front yard 3 weeks ago is now a dried up stick. There's only so much watering you can do after the sun goes down at 9:30 at night.... That's why I haven't been posting over the last three days. Way to hot upstairs to be running the computer. But that is over with. I hope.

David @ IndiansBaseballCards is up to his usual again. Giving away stacks of unwanted cards. No Braves to be had, (unwanted Braves cards?! unlikely) so I pounced on the Pirates. If you ask Why the Pirates, you don't know me to well.... (hello...Adam LaRoche?)
Well, there was no Adam sightings, but quite a few other ex Braves made an appearance or two. (or three)
our old buddy Zane Smith.... Zane was one of those guys that could've been really good had he ever pitched for a good team.
100-115 over 13 seasons for Atlanta, Montreal, and Pittsburgh. Oh, and one year with Boston.

a 3.74 ERA, and a 1.30 whip for his career. Not bad Mr. Smith.
another ex Brave, P Jason Schmidt
we sent Scmidt to the Bucs for Denny Neagle. A great move at the time.
1988 Score Rafael Belliard!
take a close look. Raffy has taken a beating, but is still in the game. This is one of theose bicycle spoke cards I think.
Next up we have 1B Randal Simon. Randal was good friends with John Rocker if you rememebr that confrontation. We released Randal very soon after that.
(Iswear it was supposed to be Simon, I have no idea why a scan of Francisco Cordova came up.)
moving on.....
we have a puzzle piece of Willie Stargell's feet. That is all.
and we end up with not a former Brave, but a card that just doesn't look right.
Kirk played a whopping 16 games for Pittsburgh in 1992. Then back to Detroit.
These, along with a whack of others, arrived yesterday. Thanks Dave!

Happy Hallowe'en!

It's Hallowe'en!!! And what better way to spend it that finding a trick or treat in the mailbox?
Our good friend Dave over at Indians baseball cards. Always. offered to send out tricks or treats to those who asked. Hey! Free cards! I'm in.
I received this little beauty today. I was secretly hoping for the evil clown in the bottom row,(you all know how I feel about clowns... I love me some clown) but who can argue with the simplicity of the pumpkin?
What did I find inside???
5 Ryan Klesko cards. I loved that guy. You always knew two things when he played.
One, he was giving 120% on every play.
Two, he was never gonna get "caught looking" at the plate.
6 Jeff Blauser cards. One of my favourite Braves from back in the day. He had an autographed picture hung in his locker during his playing days. It was personalized; "Blaus, you're the best! Your pal, Jeff"
Yes. That's right. It was a picture of himself.
7 Javy Lopez
9 Crime Dog
7 Andruw Jones
2 Chipper
1 Dale Murphy - Why the hell is this man not in the Hall of Fame???? Tell me. Anyone.
Bueller?
1 Hammerin' Hank

1 Bob Horner 1987 mini, glossy, league leader something or other that I haven't figured out yet...
and 119 more wonderful Braves that I don't have the bandwidth to scan, but are nonetheless remarable in their own way. It was an absolute blast going through and remembering guys who I haven't seen in a long time. Old favourites, and guys who were there only long enough to have their picture taken.
Thanks Dave!!!
