So I'm going through some old posts looking for a specific one, and of course I didn't tag it properly. While I'm scrolling throughpost after post, I find this post in "Draft" mode from January 27, 2012. It was already titled just like it is now, but no text in the main body.... just these scans.

 

 

I have absolutely no idea what I was going to say, or where these cards came from.

 

This is why I never use draft mode.

Tribecards on a Braves blog.......

One of the first few bloggers I ever "traded" with when I started this humble blog three years ago, was David from Indians Baseball Cards. Or Tribecards for his friends. You can call it Tribecards. Even people David hasn't met yet he considers friends. That's just the way he is.

I put the word "traded" in quotation marks earlier because back then there was very little if any trading going on. It was all more accurately described as "giving". If you saw something you liked, or needed it, someone would end up giving it to you. If you wanted to send something back, you did. You could call that trading I suppose, but it's different to me.

About a week ago I found a bubble envelope in my mailbox from the great state of Arkansas. That can only mean one thing.....

 Free wax packs!!! Well, free packs anyways... David doesn't use wax to seal his packs. He uses three rolls of tape. Per pack. I'm not kidding.
After freeing the cards from their protective cocoon, I sat and read them for an hour. David always includes a wide variety of cards in his packs, some of which I haven't seen before.
I'll just show a small sampling here, as most of the cards are already in binders, filling in holes in my team sets.

Some of you may not get past the first card. For it is Glorious.

 I can still hear Skip Caray screaming at the top of his lungs... "BRAVES WIN!!!! BRAVES WIN!!!!! BRAVES WIN!!!! BRAVES WIN!!!!!"  Damn I miss him.

Random Numbers

2500 - as in number of career wins for Bobby Cox after the Braves won the other day. When asked about it, Bobby replied, "wow. I never thought I'd live that long."

180 - as in the number of games in the storied rivalry of pro football's two oldest teams, The Chicago Bears and The Green Bay Packers. Coincidently, that's also the number of Yankees/Red Sox games that FOX/ESPN subject us to EVERY FREAKIN SEASON.

4 - as in the number of NHL players knocked out of action indefinitely because of concussions. And the preseason is only half over.

26 - as in the number of seasons George Blanda played pro football before retiring in 1975 at the age of 48. George passed away this week.

54,896 - as in the number of dollars Dallas rookie wide out Dez Bryant had to fork over to a Dallas steakhouse after taking his offensive line to dinner. That number does not, of course, include gratuity.

Random thoughts at the end of the weekend

Dallas Cowboys - Tony Romo 16/27 353 yards 3 TD's 0 INT - a career high... T.O. who?

Denver Broncos - Josh McDaniel is single handidly tearing apart a proud franchise. One of the biggest fluke plays to pull one out against the Bungles. It's going to get worse.

St Louis Rams - Shoulda just stayed home.

Arizona Cardinals - do you have the new # for Todd Haley in Kansas City? wow.

Minnesota Vikings - ugly. A.P. saved you against one of the worst defences in the nation.

Baltimore Ravens defence - 24 points from the 3rd string QB of the Chiefs?? Maybe Todd Haley was the righ tman for the job.

New York Jets - Mark Sanchez, not bad kid, not bad. Can you do it again next week?

New Orleans Saints/Drew Brees - 358 yards 6 TD's
Detroit Lions/Matt Stafford - 205 yards 3 Interceptions... hang in there kid. It's a long ride.


and to my beloved Braves.... how can you sweep Philly, the Dodgers, and the Cardinals, yet have your ass handed to you by the lowly Reds and Astros in between????

Randomness...

The Braves game against Chicago was rained out yesterday. As a result, the tv decided to grace us with a game from Florida. They were about 3,000 people there. Foul balls for everyone!
There were more ushers/security/vendors than fans. What is wrong with people? The economy really isn't that bad. The Marlins aren't that bad. The Cubs are bad, and they sell out every day. What's the deal here? The Vipers get more to each game than that.

As a result of that rainout, the Bravos starters all got pushed back a day. Which means Tommy Hanson will now start on Sunday, not Saturday. The game on Saturday is on TV. The game on Sunday is not. The gods hates me.

Congrats to Randy Johnson, who got his 300th win. Coincidently, my wife called me "The Big Unit" last night.
