Early Santa visit? Nope, but close....

I received an envelope in the post the other day. It's that time of year. Xmas cards from folks you haven't seen or talked to in way too long.
Only the card in this envelope wasn't the Xmas kind. Although it was from a friend I haven't talked to in the previously mentioned way too long.

Jim, from gcrl fame, and with a newish blog to give us his thoughts, ( click here  cards as i see them ) sent over this extremely shiny monstrosity.

Some sapphire parallel that is supposedly /250 but Topps was too lazy to number it.
It's nice when people remember you when they pull certain cards. This will go very nicely into my Adam binder.
Adam is retired now, so his card count in future year's offerings should fall slightly. Probably down to 0.

Thanks for the thought pal. I've got a little something for you once the holiday mail rush dies down. No way I'm going anywhere near a post office right now. Yikes.

New! Shiny! Bowman somethingorothers.....

at last weekend's card show, I picked up a couple of new shiny Braves from on of Bowman's latest releases.
The first, of pitcher Arodys Vizcaino is a very shiny die-cut thingie. I have no idea what insert set this is from. It's number is 10.
Cool despite not knowing where it came from. Or why the really odd die-cut shape.

The second was a shiny J-Hey. This one was a little easier figuring out where it came from.
Nice.
Not bad for a hockey show in the Great White North.

I need better sunglasses...

Things have got shiny around here lately. I thought I might share some of the shiny with you. Because everyone likes the shiny, right?
Put on some shades, lower the lights, and take a gander.

First up, one of those Topps Atomic refractors everyone has got all excited about.
I got this one of Dan Uggla at my card shop the other night. It was a gift from another collector, left there for me to pick up. Very nice.

The next two cards cost me .50 cents each at a card show a couple of weeks back.
 JHey in shiny parallel glory.
I got Mr Aaron Shiny in a trade package from Cheap Card Collecting two weeks ago.
And for .25 cents each at that same card show, I picked up these four Braves wrapper redemptions.

First Uggla
 then Jason...
 The Devil Wears Prado...
 and finally BMac.
I now have more Braves shiny in the last couple of weeks then I had all before put together. I'm almost in overload. I think I need to go and look through my '50's Topps Braves binder just to calm down. These cards are for someone who has a.d.d or something.

I found the Shiny!

I stopped by the card shop today. I was going to be in the northern part of the city anyways..... so what's a little diversion, right? I mean, I went there with a big box of base cards for trading to try and finish some of my sets. Not to spend money. But he had some new stuff on the counter. It would be rude not to sample, right?

One pack 2011 Bowman Platinum Baseball. 5 cards for $6.

The wrapper gets special treatment as it has Fabulous Freddie Freeman on it.

The very first card I see when I peel back the foil wrapper....
Glorious. For it is The J-Hey.

Next up, A Dodger, for now, Andre Ethier.
the checklist, scanned front and back for posterity.
an X-Factor super refractor glittery somethingorother of Blue Jays prospect Deck McGuire. Cool name for Mr No Chins. These are about 1:4 packs.
A Pirate! Young Pedro Alvarez. Isn't it amazing how many Pirate fans there are now since they've been in first place?
A Rays Rookie! Jeremy Hellickson! I know nothing about young Jeremy and am too lazy to find out!
but look! A sixth card in a five card pack!
Oooooohhhhhhhhhh! A Blue Jay hotpack!!! Edwin Encarnacion auto bat relic! I have no idea the insert rate of these as I don't know what group he's in.... BECAUSE TOPPS' WEBSITE SUCKS ASS!!!

I feel better now. All in all a good pack. I like these cards. A kajiilion times better than last year's "effort".

A question about today's Card O' The Day

Today's Card O' The Day (read: I'm too lazy to do a real post) is an Uncirculated 2008 Topps Chrome Gold Refractor numbered to 199 of Tony Romo.
I picked up shiny Tony here for $1.99. Now if you've ever tried to buy a Tony Romo card, let alone a refractor, you know this is a good deal. Yay me.
My question is this; Where did this card come from? Topps not including all the cards in packs? A redemption?
I'm a wee lazy to go researching this right now... maybe I will if no one knows the answer.

do you like shiny things?

Are you missing something? Something shiny?
Don't worry, head over to Puck Junk, ask nicely, and he'll give you shiny! It's true!
While you're there, say hi to Sal. He likes the company.
