What the hell? Canada dissed by MLB

Okay, so I'm late getting to this. I wasn't one of the 12 people who actually watched the All Star Game.
Apparently, during the opening festivities, Sheryl Crow came out and sang the American national anthem. But they played some cassette tape instrumental version of the Canadian anthem. This, does not sit well with me. Or anybody else around these parts.

Here's Justin Morneau: "I wasn't very impressed with that to tell you the truth. You figure they could find somebody to come and sing the song. They have a hockey team here, the Canadian teams play here. It's something that didn't really go over too well. I think if it happened the other way around, if they were playing in Toronto and they did that, it would have been a lot bigger deal. But nothing you can do about it."

Jason Bay was a little more diplomatic: (T)hey just played a recording of the Canadian National Anthem instead of having somebody come in and sing it. That seemed strange, that they couldn’t find anybody in St. Louis who knew “Oh Canada.” Morneau and I could have done it if they really needed somebody.

Now I realize that maybe three people in all of Canada watched the damn game, but still... do we need to start an international incident? The last I checked, the American anthem is sung at Blue Jay games....

Nice to know where MLB stands... well done Mr Selig. Idiot.

I agree. I mean for crying out loud did anyone even both to call Bryan Adams? It's like like he could be very busy, right? There's only so much time in the day that you can devote to shopping for denim.

millions and millions of dollars spent to put on that show and they couldn't shell out a couple of bucks to have somebody anybody sing "Oh Canada" - I mean get whoever does it for the Blues games. it's not that difficult.

Yeah--that's pretty tacky on MLB's part. :(

MLB did not want the embarrassment of singer Michael Bublé wearing a "Property of Montreal Expos" t-shirt at the game.....

Like most other canadian baseball fans my nose was out of joint by what MLB did with the anthem. Sadly, I think it is just another case of American arrogance. Whether you like it or not nothing outside of the four feet in front of a majority of good ole U.S of A-ers matters to them. Need I bring up the 1992 World Series in Atlanta? Noone in the entire f'n state of Georgia new which side was up on our flag? Like anything in life there are exceptions to the rules. Most of the Americans I know display none of the attitude I refer too. However, I know very few Americans in total. Maybe 30 or 40. The only ones who would feel a need to address this issue and contest it would be ones who would not display the attitude in the first place. These comments are not directed at you. Apologies I am sure will be given but the point is apologies should not even have to happen.

Sorry for the rant.(<----- Damn my Canadian politeness!!)

Poor show by the MLB. Heck, even all of us "redneck" hockey fans in Carolina stand and sing the Canadian National Anthem before the Canes games versus our Northern brethren.

I did not watch the game, so I missed this one, but I agree that is really poor. Maybe if they didn't feel the need to indulge in Barak's constant campaigning (you won the presidency already, now do something besides press conferences and public appearances!!!), they could have focused more on more important things, like the Canadian National Anthem. Morons. Selig is a disgrace to humans everywhere...even if he had nothing to do with this blunder.

How many Canadians are there in the Major Leagues now? Morneau, Bay, Martin, Bedard, Dempster, Votto, Francis, Stairs, Harden, and a bunch of others. Oh, and that whole Blue Jays thing.

That alone should've lit the light bulb over Selig's head.
